Platform Glossary

ACCOUNT INFORMATION:

Account - Username & password that gives users access to the platform and their course progress.

Anonymous User - An option for all users of the platform that hides personal information from other users in the platform, such as names, email, avatar image, among others.. Usernames are always public, even to users who decide to stay anonymous..

Avatar - A digital image that visually represents a user on the platform. 

Membership - Ties between a user and a specific organization.

Profile - Includes account information such as usernames and emails and where learners can manage their own account information.

Spirit Name - A name that is personal to the user.

Recovery Email - A secondary email which can be used as an option to send a reset password email in the case that the primary email is not working properly.

CLASSES:

Course - Education curriculum that consists of Modules, Lessons, Activities, and Evaluations (in the near future).

Class - A grouping of learners that are being guided / instructed by an educator / teacher and are learning a specific course.

TEACHERS / EDUCATORS:

Cohort - a grouping of users / members. For example, ‘Ms. A’s 1st graders’

Onboarded - a state describing that a user has gone through the registration and initial process to set up a user profile when first signing into the platform. 

Organizations Area - The area of the platform where educators are able to manage and create member accounts, perform administrative functions (reset passwords), and more.

Organization Manager Role - A specific role assigned to educators / teachers which gives the individual access to the Organizations Area of the platform.

Organization - Any entity using the platform.

Teacher Area - The area of the platform where teachers are able to manage their class(es), view their learners’ progress, unlock modules, and access teacher resources (TTS).

Teacher Role - A specific role assigned to educators / teachers which gives the teacher access to the Teacher Area of the platform.

Unlocked Modules (by a teacher) - Modules that have been unlocked for a class group by a teacher. Modules are unlocked in the Teacher Area.

Stranded Learner - Describes a learner who is unable to access their account (forgot their password and is unable to retrieve it). This is also the name of a feature available within the Teacher Area where teachers can help reset passwords for their learners (without the user of an email).

Reports - Visual data to show teachers both individual and class progress of the learners in their class.

Text-to-Speech System - A feature where Ojibwe Language/Anishinaabemowin words/phrases can be inputted and a digitized voice recording is generated.


COURSE CONTENT:

Activity - a single task to complete, such as a basket game or reading a single timed slide.

Content Creator - a person who creates courses, material and/or curriculum that is uploaded onto the platform.

Course Description - an overview of what the course included and what learners can expect to learn from the course.

Lesson - a content unit that is comprised of activities.

Module - a content unit that is comprised of lessons.

Module Summary - an overview of what is included within the module.

Printable Vocabulary List - a printable list of module vocabulary words that include the language/dialect and the translation language. For example: Anishinaabemowin and English.

Speaker - a person who speaks the language fluently.

GAME ACTIVITIES:

Basket Game - An activity where learners drag and drop cards into their appropriate baskets.

Fill-in-the-blank words & sentences - An activity where learners input the correct missing letters/character into the blank fields.

Matching Game - An activity where learners drag and drop cards onto the appropriate leaf.

Practice Flashcards - the Weighted Flashcard activity where up to 3 module vocabulary lists can be selected. Learners are to select how well or not well they know a word. Words the learner does not know well will appear more frequently within the deck to aid the learner.

Vocabulary Flashcards - a deck of word cards that includes assets that are integral to learning words of a language/dialect. Examples of assets are: text, image, audio recording, video animation, animacy identification.

GENERAL PLATFORM:

Invitation - A type of user notification that invites the recipient to be part of something. Recipients can accept or decline invitations and they can be used for various purposes. For example: to invite a user to enroll in a class or invite a user to join an organization.

Main Map - the page of the platform that lists the content of an active course.

Module Campsite - a module’s home page.

Notification - feature within the platform that notifies users about specific updates and alerts that may affect the user.
